M.O.O.D. is based on the universal pursuit of the American dream of business ownership. After beginning research on my ancestry of African-American, Irish, Cherokee and Filipino decent I have found that entrepreneurship was a common thread. I became intrigued by the desire to be self-employed that many Americans of various backgrounds shared. Starting with the Plaza, my grandfather’s jazz club, I am currently creating drawings from found photographs of the ancestors’ businesses in order to identify cultural, physical and psychological commonalities shared within the each businesses’ space while simultaneously evoking the essence of the community in which they exist.
